Keynote: FirstNet Goes 5G

The recent fourth anniversary of the public-private partnership formed by the First Responder Network Authority also marked the launch of FirstNet Authority’s multi-phase, multi-year journey to deliver full 5G capabilities for public safety. Edward Parkinson will discuss how FirstNet has successfully deployed infrastructure and how it plans to build on that success to further unify first responder communications with the latest generation of wireless technology.

Increasing ROI at the Tower
Towers have always been a real estate play; however, today, tower companies can increase their return on investment far beyond RAD centers. This panel will explore the multiple ways that you can increase the cash flow from your telecom facilities. Whether it is power to the tower, fiber transport or edge compute, towers can provide carriers with a raft of value-add services . From industry experts, you will find out about the challenges and opportunities of diversifying the services that you can provide the carriers.

Rural Coverage Opportunities and Challenges
Plenty of money has been pledged to closing the digital divide. Building on what started with the Connect America Fund, the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, the 5G Fund for Rural America and possibly new legislation, the “Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act,” will make billions of dollars available to build out broadband to unserved and underserved areas of the nation. Also, remember that all the tribal communities are receiving wireless buildouts. This Herculean effort requires building hundreds of towers, thousands of route miles of fiber and large numbers of data centers. Learn from a wide array of experts about how the communications infrastructure industry will meet these challenges.

Initiatives Grow the Communications Infrastructure Workforce and Increase Diversity
You can tell by the other panels at this show that there is abundant opportunity for growth in the communications infrastructure industry. Success requires having enough trained technicians to handle all the work. Additionally, studies show that recruiting people of different gender, race, and age not only allows a company to mirror its customer base but also improves its bottom line. In this panel, you will learn about progress in the development of programs that encourage diversity, apprenticeships, recruitment of veterans, certification and compliance. To deploy 5G, the industry is expected to need at least 20,000 more technicians. This panel will show how to make that happen.
