July 6, 2016 — Luminet, an Internet service provider and Cambridge Communication Systems (CCS) have partnered to rollout a neutral host backhaul and enterprise network across London, which will enable carriers to receive up to 1 Gbps wireless backhaul for their small cells.
CCS was founded in 2010 specifically to create a self-organizing microwave backhaul system for small cells, known as Metnet. It has been trialed by China Mobile and has a global VAR relationship with Ericsson.
Metnet dynamically adapts to capacity demands and optimizes spectrum usage to meet the carrier’s throughput needs. Through the partnership with Luminet, CCS has access to more than 1,900 sites in London and two 112 megahertz channels at 28 GHz.
In addition, Luminet has integrated its 3D mapping and a site database into the CCS Metnet planning tool for designing and planning stage of each London small cell deployment. The 3D map data will identify demand hotspots in the capital, allowing for reliable one-by-one or mass predictions without the need for physical site surveys.
