DALLAS — May 25, 2016 — Aside from this year’s Wireless Infrastructure Show with the latest and greatest products and technologies for the infrastructure ecosystem, there is a growing emergence of presence in the DAS and small cell arenas. The technological advancements in both DAS and small cell becomes more evident every year.
One of the most exciting vectors within that segment is the capability that has emerged to bring outdoor DAS, indoors. What that means is that BTI Wireless has developed a solution that harnesses the power of outdoor DAS in the indoor environment.
This cutting edge solution has taken 20- to 80-watt power systems, normally used for outdoor deployments and adapted them to the great indoors. What that means is that rather than having to place a 3- to 5-watt DAS network on each floor of a multi-floor building (high-rise apartment of office building, for example) this solution can place the core system on one of the floors and offer DAS coverage several floors above and below the hardware without running cable and radiators on each floor.
This is definitely not a catch-all solution but certainly offers a rather unique and innovative alternative to the traditional single-floor DAS network. This solution has conquered the power issue with what is called “digital” power which uses a low-power “packet” technology to push power out to the radiators. While the actual “how” is proprietary, the concept is, indeed, a bleeding-edge innovation in the DAS platform. If this catches on, the challenge of hardware-heavy DAS solutions may have a new contender.
