Tomorrow, Sempre is raising its first 5G tower in Colorado Springs, Colorado, according to information from the company. Sempre (secure EMP-resistant edge) is a digital infrastructure company founded by Brig. Gen. (ret) Robert Spalding and a team of national security and telecom pioneers, the company said. Sempre said it provides military-grade 5G and high-performance edge computing infrastructure for telecom operators, first responders, government and enterprise customers.
The new Sempre tower will run demonstrations for and can act as a standalone 5G network or integrate with existing telecom networks, the company said. It said the tower is the only one in the world to include a data center enclosed in the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) section of the tower, enabling true processing at the edge. A Sempre 5G tower can reach a 25-to-30 square-mile area and run up to 500,000 devices.
In December 2021, Sempre secured a $20 million seed round from U.S. family offices, led by Goff Capital and joined by Hayman Capital Management.
“We are seeing an escalation of attacks on our nation’s critical infrastructure, which is why our firm is focusing new investment on technology and innovation that protects the United States,” said Rhydon Lee, partner at Goff Capital. “As we roll out 5G and increase our dependence on connectivity, securing our data is crucial. We invested in Sempre because the team, composed of technical experts in commercial networking and edge computing and seasoned veterans in national security, is committed to ensuring access to secure, reliable, high-performance compute and connectivity.”
In November 2021, Spalding announced his Digital Atlantic Charter initiative, designed to keep data and critical infrastructure safe around the world and sharing that Sempre was the first investment. Sempre has executed against several Defense Department contracts and continues to work on improving access and communications for U.S. armed forces, the company said.
