Exalt systems backhaul aggregated customer traffic to network operations center
CAMPBELL, Calif. — October 30, 2013 — Exalt Communications, Inc., the leading innovator of next-generation packet microwave backhaul systems, today announced that Watch Communications of Lima, OH has deployed Exalt microwave systems to provide core network backhaul for its voice, data, and video services.
Watch Communications began as a wireless MMDS Cable TV system operator using microwave technology, offering Cable TV service to rural areas where standard cable service was unavailable. Today, Watch Communications is a wireless communications service provider delivering digital voice, wireless cable TV, and Internet services to some 10,000 customers in northwestern Ohio, providing an affordable, high performance alternative to standard cable television systems and dial-up Internet services. The company chose Exalt microwave backhaul systems to increase the bandwidth of the network, replacing legacy microwave technology.
“We were maxed-out on our old 45 megabit microwave systems, and we needed more bandwidth with high reliability,” said Mike Birkemeier, chief engineer at Watch Communications. ”The Exalt systems give us 150 megabits per-second of bandwidth with trouble-free operation.”
The Exalt systems form the core of the Watch Communications network, backhauling aggregated customer traffic back to the company’s network operations center. The service provider deployed Exalt all-indoor 6 GHz systems, and the field-replaceable diplexer design of the systems enables the company to manage spares inventory more efficiently and at far less cost.
“Wireless service providers like Watch Communications deliver modern communications services to rural areas where, even today, there is often no other option except dial-up,” said Joe Schraml, Exalt vice president of product management. “These networks, which serve both commercial and residential customers, need high bandwidth with high reliability in all weather conditions, and Exalt equipment delivers.”
